DeCiphers by Irene Mamiye- SOLD OUT
We are delighted to introduce Irene Mamiye’s DeCiphers as our next project! Irene is a world-renowned New York based artist who pushes the boundaries of photography, sculpture, video, and new media. Since 2010, much of her practice has focused on questions of authorship and ownership of online imagery. Pulling jpegs and screenshots from the internet and social media, she utilizes digital tools such as Photoshop, Unity, and Cinema 4D to reimagine these works through the lens of today’s technology, reframing the concept of photographic fidelity.
Her Ciphers series began by archiving images of modernist artists’ work—Barnett Newman, Josef Albers, Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelley-- as depicted on the internet through a series of screenshots and jpgs. She pulls shapes and images from these works and uses software to layer and manipulate them, reimagining what the artists themselves may have done if they had access to today’s technology. She then brings these compositions into the physical world via plexiglass extrusions, using layering and etching to imitate filters, lens aberrations, and jpeg artifacts in a tangible medium. In this way she has always explored the concept of 1-of-1-of-x.
In a continuation of this practice, we are partnering with Irene to bring Ciphers on-chain as DeCiphers, an evolution of the series through the lens of generative art. This collection of 1000 NFTs will continue the conversation of authorship that Irene has explored through her body of work over the past decade, illuminating the changing relationship between artistic process and output.

Irene Mamiye
Irene Mamiye is a New York-based artist whose work incorporates photography, video, and digital imaging techniques. With light, color and movement, Mamiye blurs the distinctions between physical and virtual reality. Influenced by her own personal history and artists as diverse as Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Gerhard Richter, Mamiye employs intricate and labor-intensive processes to challenge what is expected of the photographic medium. Culling photographs from social media, Mamiye transforms the plenitude of public images into richly layered works that hint at a life lived between screens. With a playful yet mordant humor, Mamiye creates pieces packed with art historical depth and pop cultural abundance.
Mamiye’s extensive body of work, including digital images, videos, and furniture designs, has been widely exhibited across the United States, including in the Aperture Foundation’s Photography is Magic, curated by Charlotte Cotton, and in the landmark show The Edge of Vision (2009). Mamiye’s work was part of the Museum of Art and Design’s Multiple Exposures: Jewelry and Photography (2014), and exhibited at SCOPE Art Fair, SELECT Fair (NYC), and Art Hamptons. Her work has been featured in the following publications: Architectural Digest, Interior Design Magazine, Vanity Fair, People Magazine, Elle Décor and InStyle.
Irene Mamiye was born in Marseille, France and immigrated to the U.S as an adolescent. She holds a BA in Photography and Global Studies from Gallatin New York University and an MFA in Lens Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
